I just quit smoking yesterday, but only had a couple ciggarettes the day before and my throat still hurts (also swollen) really bad and I cough all the time now and I never used to before.

Because now that oxygen is more readily available to your lungs, they are trying to expel the tar off of the lining and cilia (tiny hairs) inside your lungs. It will get better.

Before your body didnt really have any way to clean out your lings since you would be constantly putting back anything it got rid of. Now that you quit smoking your body is clearing your lngs of tar.

The same as above its just your nose you dont have hairs in your body getting rid of the rubbish and cillia is the rubbish and cillia is the same as above its just your lungs.
