I’ve been smoking for 5 years at about a pack a day… Is it too late to avoid lung cancer? Oh, I smoke pot too!

i quit smoking a little more than 3 months ago. it was easier to quit than i thought it would be, probably because i am pregnant and i did it for my unborn, as i had been unable to do it before when it was just for myself. i had been a pack a day (at least) smoker for 13 years. but still everytime i see someone light up or smell smoke i have a ridiculous craving. when does this pass?

And have you been successful? Would you recommend trying this for a smoker who has been smoking a pack a day for 7 years?
Thank you for all of your informative answers! I am really trying to prepare my mind for quitting and it is the most difficult thing I have ever done!

I’ve been smoking now for two weeks. I’m able to quit whenever I want but the reason why I smoke is because if I get depressed I start to smoke. So I told myself that myabe it’s better to start smoking because of my depression instead of drinking beer. So I bought a pack and I’m about to run out. Should I go out and buy some more. I have the will power to stop smoking altogehter but I get depressed sometimes during the week like at least four or three times a week and I want to know if smoking helps. And should I keep on smoking if it takes my mind off of my depression? I smoke cigarette’s and I’m also a chain smoker. And I like the idea of dying so I want to keep smoking for the next 20 years until I get lung cancer and die from it. Is this normal and is smoking ok? And I’m thinking about smoking a pack a day.

I quit smoking at the end of September. Here lately, I have had a terrible smokers cough for about the past 3 weeks. I have heard from several people that you will cough for quite a while to clear your lungs of all of the tar (I was a pack a day smoker for 8 years). Does anyone know approximatley how long this is supposed to last? It is driving me insane!

Or know someone that has? I want to know how likely it is that it’ll work, and what can help.

I’m 21 and have been smoking a pack a day for a year. My lungs hurt really bad right now and I’m sick of this. I get short of breath very easily and I feel old.

Using chantix I quit smoking - twice. The first time for 5 weeks - then one night I just had one. The next week I had a couple more. Within 2 months I was up to 1/2 pack a day - all the while taking Chantix! Now I’ve quit again - 3 weeks. The physical addition is gone after a couple of days but the mental addition is what I am struggling with! I’ve tried inhaling unlit cigarettes which helps somewhat. And of course eating … I’ve gained 20 lbs through all this …
I understand that there’s a limit on the number of perscriptions you can get for Chantix and there’s a whole black market for them now - especially in companies where the insurance covers it! (Mine doesn’t) I can’t afford to keep taking it anyways.
Regardless of price - I am having COPD symptoms and I REALLY need to quit.
Any suggestions??
